I’m not sure exactly what I want – can you give me some ideas?
Yes. It's great if you already know or at least have a general idea. But, if not, I can certainly help you decide. Just give me all your ideas, and I'll let you know what will or will not work. I will then give you suggestions, based on our discussions.
I see you specialize in children's rooms, do you paint other types of murals too?
Yes... Although the majority of my work consists of children's murals and nurseries, I can paint anything. My Gallery has many different categories. My work doesn't get added to the website immediately, so if you don't see what you're looking for, just ask. I can create an original design, or re-create something you or your children love.
How long will it take to paint the mural, and does someone have to be home?
It depends on the design you choose. Jobs vary anywhere from one day on up, depending on the size of the room, the amount of wall coverage and how much detail the design requires. On average, most jobs are completed within 1-4 days. It's not necessary for someone to be home the entire time it takes to complete the mural. However, I do prefer to have someone there for a short period of time on the first day to go over any changes and approve final designs.
What type of paints do you use?
Benjamin Moore brand paints (eggshell finish for walls and flat for ceilings). It is a very durable paint and offers rich, brilliant colors.
How durable is the mural - will the paint come off when I wash the walls?
As mentioned above, I use some of the most durable latex paints available, so go ahead and wash the wall as you normally would. As with any paint, scrubbing abrasively might cause the paint to come off, but not with normal washing.
Is it necessary for me to paint the room first?
Generally, starting with a fresh coat of paint will help with the longevity and durability of the mural. I usually recommend a fresh coat, since you won't be able to effectively paint around it once completed. However, it is not always necessary -- depending on the circumstance.
Do I need to move the furniture out of the room?
It’s very helpful and sometimes necessary. It’s really to your advantage -- basically providing you with more painting time by not having to cover furniture and/or maneuver around it.
Can you match colors to specific bedding?
Yes, that's not a problem. A piece of the fabric or the actual bedding works best. Sometimes the colors in pictures can be deceiving. I can also design the mural around the bedding entirely. (See "Bedding Match" in Gallery.)
How soon can I have my mural painted?
It depends -- things change on a daily basis. Even if I'm booked out for a few months, I sometimes have openings scattered throughout. Just let me know when the ideal time would be for you to have your mural completed by, and I'll do my best to make that happen. If your room needs repainting, it's good to have that done as soon as possible, so it's ready to go.
How far do you travel?
I live in Naperville, but travel to most of the Chicagoland areas on a regular basis. Anything beyond that would be considered on an individual basis.
